MAPUSA: Flaming Oranje scored a narrow 1-0 win over SCC Cavelossim SOWS in the Vedanta Women’s Football League match, organised by Goa Football Association and played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.
Flavina Rodrigues scored the only goal of the match in the 11th minute. By virtue of this win, Flaming Oranje moved on to third spot with eight points while SCCC SOWS remained on second spot with nine points.
The match began on equal footings but Flaming Oranje capitalised on their early chance and converted through Flavina. Despite SCCC SOWS efforts to score the equaliser, Flaming Oranje defended resolutely to protect their slender lead.
With the league phase coming to an end, Panjim Dolphins, SCC Cavelossim SOWS, Albert Princesses and Flaming Oranje progressed into the knock out stages of the GFA Vedanta Women’s Football League.
Panjim Dolphins remained unbeaten throughout the league phase registering four wins and a draw taking them to 13 points at the top. They will meet fourth-placed Albert Princesses, who are on seven points, in the two-leg semi-finals, playing their first leg on December 10 at Duler Stadium, at 4.30 p.m. while second placed SCCC SOWS, who are on nine points, will lock horns with Flaming Oranje, who are on third spot with eight points, on the same day at 6 p.m.
The second leg matches will be played on December 13.
