PANJIM: A football player and a coach have been suspended for a year each and fined separetely following an enquiry in two assault cases against the referees by the Disciplinary Committee of Goa Football Association (GFA).
The GFA in a press note issued on Tuesday, stated that player Ritesh Parsekar has been suspended from football and football related activities for 12 months from the day of the incident on February 15 during the Sateri vs Ronit match at Taleigao ground. Referee Ritesh Parsekar stated that when Vilas was shown the second yellow card for reckless tackle after being shown the yellow at first instance, he challenged the referee’s decision and charged towards the official, using abusive language. Further, the player threatened the official with dire consequences, pushed him and manhandled him. When the player told the referee that he would show him outside the playfield about what he could do, he was shown the red card.
Besides one year’s suspension, the player has been fined Rs 5,000 and the suspension will continue till the fine is paid.
In the second case, the GFA stated that “during the Velsao SCC vs Vasco SC match at Nagoa ground, coach Eban Mesquita used abusive and filthy language against match referee Mizio Piexoto resorting to expletives against the official and his mother and that after being shown the red card the coach threw water bottles on the referee, ran towards him and slapped him on the face.”
“The coach has been suspended from football and all football related activities for 12 months from March 29 and asked to pay a fine of Rs 10,000. The suspension will further continue till the fine is paid by him,” the order concluded.
The order was passed after the enquiry was conducted by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee comprising Pramod Kamat (retd Additional Sessions Judge) chairman, Abigail E Fernandes, deputy chairman and Albert Pinheiro, member, stated GFA’s general secretary Lector Mascarenhas.
