PANJIM: Fairtrade India presented an award to the Forca Goa Foundation recently to recognise them as the first organisation in India to make a commitment to the Fairtrade footballs.
Fairtrade is a global movement that aims to gives consumers the power to make informed choices that change lives. When you choose a Fairtrade India certified product, you know that the farmers and workers who grow and make your food, fashion or footballs were treated fairly.
Forca Goa Foundation aims to bring Goa together through football and is transforming Goa, one football field at a time. Through football, the Foundation aims to mobilize, empower and connect communities across Goa and the foundation trains many children across the fields in Goa about football. Forca Goa Foundation has committed to source all the footballs they will be using in their academy, coaching or training from a Fairtrade certified factory. Through these fairer choices, Forca Goa Foundation will be empowering a community of workers who hand stitch INDPro footballs in a Fairtrade India certified factory in Ludhiana. By choosing the fairer football alternative Forca Goa Foundation is ensuring that the footballs are made at factories that follow Fairtrade social and environmental sustainability standards. This means that the workers who stitch them have access to good working conditions, fair wages, right to form associations and unions and a Fairtrade Premium.
