MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club scored a thumping 7-0 win over Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the Goa Professional League match, at Duler Stadium, on Thursday.
As the scoreline suggests, it was Dempo who held the upper-hand in the entire 90 minutes of duel pinning their rivals in their own backyard.
In the very opening minute Felix Odili Chidi got hold of the ball from Beevan D’Mello and after getting his way past the defenders aimed goal wards however his shot was kept away from Cavelossim keeper Gurpreet.
Couple of minutes later, Beevan made a threatening run into the Cavelossim danger zone, however he was timely dispossessed by defender Jasper Pereira as the expense of a corner.
In the 12th minute of play the Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty kick when Joaquim Carvalho was found guilty by the referee for bringing down Beevan inside the penalty area. Felix who stepped forward made no mistake in finding the back of the nets, 1-0.
The Panjim outfit did not waste much time and quickly doubled their lead when Anthony weaved his way into the Cavelossim danger zone and set up Kapil Hobble who coolly tapped the ball home, 2-0.
Buoyed by the two goal lead Dempo kept up the pressure but Germanpreet saw his long range effort by brilliantly pushed away by Cavelossim keeper Gurpreet.
In the last quarter of the first half the Dempo outfit fired in three more goals where first Felix scored through a firm header off Hayden Fernandes’s cross, 3-0. Couple of minutes later Felix went on to score his hat-trick through a blistering shot from the edge of the penalty area, 4-0.
Anthony, who was instrumental in all the prior goals of the match, got his name on the scorers list when he got the better of the rival defenders and drilled the ball past the diving Cavelossim keeper, 5-0.
On resumption of play Dempo continued with their dominance and could have further inflated when Beevan beautifully controlled Nickson Castanha’s cross and fired the ball into the Cavelossim nets, 6-0.
Dempo’s hunger for goal did not cease at that where Felix went on to make it 7-0, giving finishing touches to Gabriel Fernandes cross.
