FATORDA: Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School Verna defeated Holy Spirit Institute Margao 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the final of the Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee Cup, at Astro turf ground, Fatorda on Thursday.
It was a neck to neck contest between both the teams with Meuton Fernandes making moves for Fr Agnel while Mevan Dias stole the show for Holy Spirit.
In the second minute Meuton Fernandes of Fr Agnel shot from the centre but the formers shot was saved by Holy Spirit keeper Shivam Kalangutkar.
Holy Spirit through Mevan Dias missed another opportunity in the 19th minute as he shot wide.
In the second session Fr Agnel raised the tempo with Meuton Fernandes and Nigel Coutinho pressuring the rival defence however the strikers couldn’t find the nets for their team.
Fr Agnel’s substitute Velroy Fernandes corner kick which was dipping into Holy Spirit net was pushed away to safety by Holy Spirit keeper with just five minutes remaining for the final whistle.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Fr Agnel netted through Meuton Fernandes, Nigel Coutonho, Aaron Mascarenhas, Royston Braganza and Brison Fernandes while Prince K Singh, Saideep Pompurbekar, Aditya Salgaocar and Harsh Patre scored for Holy Spirit Institute.
In another match Rosary Higher Secondary School Navelim defeated Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna 3-1 to book their berth in the final.
Leo Rebello, Joybert Almeida and Aaron Barretto netted for Rosary Higher Secondary while Necio Fernandes pulled a goal back for Fr Agnel HS.
