The teams displayed some attacking moves in both the sessions and the rain Gods too showered their blessings which helped the ground conditions to improve and also boosted the players’ spirit.
A swift move by Sezwin Fernandes of Fr Agnel YC in the very sixth minute was thwarted by the rival defender, clearing to the safety.
In the 11th minute, a defensive error by Shubery Pereira should have cost Cortalim Villagers dearly but their goalkeeper came to the rescue by saving a well-measured shot of Fr Agnel YC’s Avon Fernandes.
Post resumption, Fr Agnel YC started the match on an attacking note with Kanchan Keiro releasing a venous strike but Royston Vaz of Cortalim Villagers blocked the former’s move in the 51st minute.
Elvis Pereira of Cortalim Villagers shot in a well fashioned manner but to his dismay the effort was saved by Fr Agnel YC’s goalkeeper Andrew Dias in the 59th minute.
At the end of regulation time, both teams failed to open an account and were held to a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Fr Agnel YC netted through the efforts of Kanchan Keiro, Avon Fernandes, Pascoal Fernandes, Sezwin Fernandes and Conceicao D’Costa while Cortalim Villagers were on target through Shubert Pereira, Royston Vaz and Elvis Pereira.
