RAIA: Fr Agnelo Youth Club from Paroda triumphed over SCS Poitomado, 6-5, via the tie-breaker, advancing to the quarterfinals of the 25th all-Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter-village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club and held at Chinchinim Church ground on Monday.
The match saw intense midfield action, with Poitomado initially having the upper hand. Daulat’s header narrowly missed the goal by inches. In the 20th minute, Shivam received a yellow card. Just before halftime, Mathews Fernandes’s free kick was expertly saved by Paroda’s keeper, Melvino Lima.
Fr Agnelo Youth Club returned with a different game plan in the second half, launching attacks on Poitomado’s defense. However, Alisten Fernandes stood firm, keeping the Paroda strikers at bay. The match remained a midfield battle, ending in a goalless draw and proceeding to a tie-breaker.
In the penalty shootout, Fr Agnelo Youth Club outperformed SCS Poitomado. successful penalty takers for Paroda were Kiro, Melvino, Salvin, Savio, Xavier and Gladson. For SCS Poitomado, successful penalty takers were Alister, Hrishikesh, Mathew, Vayne and Shivam.
