MAPUSA: Fr Agnelo Youth sports Club, Paroda and Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao won their respective matches to cruise into the semi-finals of St Lawrence Cup Soccer organized by Agassaim Youth Club and sponsored by Karl Group in association with Parish Youth of Agassaim at Agassaim ground.
On Tuesday, Taleigao overpowered United Club of Telaulim, Navelim 5-0. Striker Cedric Peixoto registered a fine brace which included a rasping 30-yarder, followed by a clinical finish. Taleigao led 3-0 at half time after Ashley Rodrigues put them ahead.
Post resumption, Octavio Miranda headed in from close range while Ferran Fernandes rounded the rival keeper to make it 5-0. In second quarter-finals, on Monday, Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda held their nerves in the tie-breaker to edged past Betalbatim Sporting Club 7-5.
All was looking good for the Paroda outfit at the stroke of half time after Godfrey Rodrigues and captain Alvison D’ Costa had given their side a two-goal cushion.
However, Betalbatim bounced back strongly in the second session as goals from Klinsman Pereira and Vellington D’Souza leveled terms to force a tie-breaker.
In the penalty shoot-out, Paroda converted all five attempts through Pascoal Fernandes, Anthony Dias, Alvison, Godfrey and Soccor Colaco. Klinsman shot wide for Betalbatim while Aniston Fernandes, Royston and Roshwin found the target.
