Fredson edged his opponent Vedant Halankar from Ribandor by fraction of .05 seconds after the Neura lad crossed the finish clocking 43.05 minutes while Vedant clocked 43.10 minutes
Mihir Deo from Miramar came third with a timing of 43.13 minutes.
Cash prizes of Rs 8,000, 6,000 and 4,000 along with trophies and certificates were awarded for the first, second and third place winners respectively.
The above young lads –who secured the first 3 places –were given a very strong challenge by veteran Antonio Fernandes –aged 48 years –from Cansaulim who after leading for most part of the race came fourth with a timing of 43.20 minutes.
Antonio’s effort won him two prizes, one being a cash prize of Rs 2,000 for the oldest participant and the other – Rs 1000 for coming first in 45+ years category.
George Vaz from Guirdolim, who finished 12th, won the special prize along with a trophy and certificate for coming first among contestants hailing from Guirdolim-Chandor area. Consolation prizes, mementos and certificates were awarded to the other contestants who completed the race.
The prizes were given away by the chief guest Sudesh Bhise in the presence of special guestsSiddesh Bhise and Donald D’Souza.
