Friends edge past Sirsaim

Friends XI, Vaddem prevailed over Sirsaim Sports Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw in the inaugural match of Novino Gold Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim on Sunday.
Both teams began on a low key. Sirsaim took the lead in the 25th minute through Agnelo D’Sousa.
Changing over, Vaddem fought back and restored parity in the 40th minute through Arun Kinlekar.
In the penalties, Vaddem got the better of Sirsaim 3-2. Charlston D’Sousa, Arun Kinlekar and Sanjay Mayekar scored for Vaddem while Agnelo D’Sousa and Edberg Sequeira found the mark for Sirsaim.
Earlier, Candolim sarpanch, Fermino Fernandes inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Lourenco Fernandes, president, Candolim Sports Club and others.
