NUVEM: Bruno isn’t a new name in Goan football. The legendary Goan striker, who made his name on national and international platform, inspired a lot of Goans including the ‘Colaco family’ from Nuvem, who named their son after the lethal striker, 25 years ago.
“My Godfather named me Bruno because during those days Goa’s legend Bruno Coutinho was the International star,” revealed FC Goa’s new signing Bruno Colaco.
Antoneta and Piedade Colaco son ‘Bruno’, however, turned out to be the shot stopper!
Bruno began his playing career with Ave Maria, Benaulim U-14 team before he joined Franca Pax. The Sesa FC graduate then went on to play for Margao FC in Goa Pro League.
His stellar performances in the league earned him recognition among the top clubs in Goa. He went on the play for Sporting Club de Goa and later was loaned to Bengaluru FC, where he won the I-League crown in the 2013-14 season. Bruno then shifted back to Goa and played a season for Dempo SC and later swapped the colours for rivals Salgaocar SC.
When asked about what was the experience after he learnt his selection in the FC Goa team, Bruno Colaco said he was happy and excited to play for FC Goa this time. “I was waiting for the opportunity to play in this tournament and the dream came true,” said the former Salgaocar keeper recalling those gone days when he was a spectator at PJN ground cheering FC Goa.
Bruno felt that he got the opportunity because of Santosh trophy experience wherein he impressed with strong performances in the tournament.
“I got a chance to play for the home team and I am confident and looking for good combination,” he added.
Bruno further said that he is grateful and thankful to Brahamanand Sancolkar, International player and coach Mateus D’Costa for their guidance and valuable time bound direction.
Bruno’s concluded with an advice to the youth, “Always work hard for the success.”
Bruno is also involved in developing talent in his locality as the lad believes in moulding and nurturing young talent as the relay torch has to be lighted and passed on to the upcoming players.
