PANJIM: Gagnesh Dhulapkar, Komal Salgaokar and Kartik Iyer emerged winners at the 4th late Ramacanta VP Dharwatkar all-Goa Table Tennis championship organized by Panjim Table Tennis Club in association with the Sports Authority of Goa, at indoor stadium, Campal, here, recently.
Gagnesh Dhulapkar justified his top billing by winning the under-14 boys singles title. Gagnesh got the better of Jayz Gomes 11-4, 12-10, 11-8.
Meanwhile, Komal Salgoakar dictated terms against top seed Pranali Sonawane to win the under-17 girls singles crown. Komal won 11-9, 11-6, 3-11, 12-10.
Kartik Iyer was in prime form as he won the under-21 boys singles title with an 11-8, 11-7, 16-14 straight set win over top seed Selvyn Godinho.
Prizes were awarded to the winners, runners-up, semi-finalists and quarter-finalists.
The following semi-finalists and quarter-finalists prizes were awarded to under-14 boys Anshuman Agarwal and Anish Verlekar (semis); Aarav Shinde, Shaswat Mhapsekar, Sirus Sah and Jaeden Gomes (quarters). Under-17 girls: Anushka Hamanavar and Tanya Patil (semis); Sanisha Shetye, Sarva Hede, Arantxa Noronha and Utkarsha Shivani (quarters). Under-21 boys: Pranav Naik and Mandar Joshi (semis); Ashutosh Chari, Nikhil Jadhav, Shubham Mengane and Joel Andrade (quarters).
The championship was organized to commemorate the 83rd birth anniversary of late Ramacanta Dharwatkar, one of Goa’s foremost table tennis champions.
Noel Noronha, former State champion was the chief guest for the occasion. Mahendra Dharwatkar, Manish Realtors, former footballer Hilary Fernandes, AE of Electricity Department Sidharth Sakhardande and social worker Hemant Golatkar were also present.
The championship was officiated by Noel Estibeiro. Earlier, Chetan Kavlekar, President of Panjim TT Club welcomed while club secretary Sandeep Heble later proposed the vote of thanks.
