The Regional Director, NSWC, Roque Dias highlighted that the Gandhinagar Centre will be a major training hub as the Government of India had sanctioned Rs 15 crore for 100-bedded hostel, state-of-the-art scientific lab and a modern fitness centre.
Besides, an athletic synthetic surface of international standards will be laid within a month and will be the only international synthetic track in Gujarat, Roque stated. The camps for Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held at this centre shortly in athletics and hockey. Incidentally, this centre also boasts of an astro turf for hockey of international standard.
Meanwhile, the Centre conducted a 6-week certificate course for coaches with the support of academic wing of NIS, Patiala. It was conducted in 10 disciplines, with 88 candidates having participated in the same.
Earlier, a bust of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was unveiled by S S Chhabra, Secretary, SAI, New Delhi at SAI, Gandhinagar. Roque Dias was also present.
