CALANGUTE: Gaura Vaddo defeated Saunta Vaddo by a solitary goal in the final of 20th Aleixo Joao Menezes Memorial Cup – Calangute Veterans inter-ward football tournament organised by Calangute United, at Calangute Association ground, on Sunday.
The match winner for Gaura Vaddo Calangute came in the 15th minute as midfielder Prashant Matkar gave a neat pass just outside the penalty box to Joseph Fernandes who curled the ball in the far right corner of the net.
Changing over Saunta Vaddo, Calangute pressed hard to find an equaliser but their strikers lacked accuracy.
Chief guest Fr Polly Lobo, Parish Priest of St Alex Church, Calangute gave away the prizes in the presence of Dattaprasad Dabholkar – Z.P.Member Calangute and other dignitaries.
The winners and runners-up were awarded cash prize of Rs 15,000 & Rs 10,000 respectively plus trophies
