PANJIM: Gaurav Madkaikar of Almeida High School won the Ponda Taluka High School chess tournament organized by GVM’s Pragati Vidyalaya in collaboration with Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA), at Borim, Ponda, recently.
Vageesh Tendulkar of IVBD’s SS Samiti School finished second while Yogiraj Sangaokar of Wagle High School settled for the third place in the open category.
Aston Dias, Vishwesh Pai, Nandan Sakordekar, Akash Chodankar, Mangesh Chodankar, Milind Gauns and Kaushik Khedekar got the fourth to 10th place respectively.
Best school prize was awarded to GVM’s AJ de Almeida High School, Ponda.
Apurva Naik, Sadichha Naik, Tejal Lotlikar, Gauri Naik and Tanmaya Bakhale were awarded consolation prizes for their excellent performances among the girls. Dipesh Naik, Vivek Kumar Dubey, Rasik Borkar, Suprita Naik and Abhilasha Goswami from Pragati Vidyalaya were felicitated for their good performance.
Five students from Lokvishwas Pratishtan were also felicitated during the function for participation.
Kishor Bandekar, secretary of Goa Chess Association was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the presence of Sagar Sakordekar, president of PTCA; Amogh Namshiker, secretary; Sudesh Borkar, vice-chairman, GVM’s Pragati Vidyalaya Golden Jubilee committee; Sandeep Dhawalikar, treasure, GVM’s Working Committee; Anita Singbal , Headmistress of GVM’s Pragati Vidyalaya and Chief Arbiter Sanjay Kavlekar.
