MAPUSA: Gauravaddo scored a narrow 1-0 win over Sauntavaddo in the inaugural match of the 16th Alexio Joao Menezes Memorial Calangute veterans inter-ward soccer cup organized by Calangute United, at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Saturday.
Buoyed by the huge crowd gathered to support them, both the sides displayed some good brand of soccer keeping the keepers on high alert.
The only goal of the match happened in the 24th minute of play when Simao Silveira fired in a power-packed shot from outside the danger zone which crashed into the Sauntavaddo net.
Earlier, former National player Digamber Haldankar kicked off the tournament in the presence of Anthony Menezes.
