PORVORIM: Goa Cricket Association (GCA) adopted the Lodha panel recommended reforms in full by resolving a few queries that were brought up by the panel at its General Body Meeting held at its premises, on Sunday.
“A few queries which were brought up the Lodha Committee have been passed successfully today at the meeting. As we are fully a Lodha complied association now, we will request Committee of Administrators (CoA) for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to grant permission to hold elections in the month of June/July,” said GCA president Suraj Lotlikar while addressing the media at Porvorim.
It may be recalled that GCA was the second cricketing body in the country to adopt a resolution to consider and approve its proposed new constitution as per the Lodha Committee recommendations in 2017.
Suraj disclosed that the General body had also taken a decision to have a department of coaching and appoint a director for coaching on contract basis so as to train the player in the best way possible and according to effective training techniques.
He also said that a performance audit as well as an activity audit for all the players will be held so as to keep a track on all the players involved in the game.
“Cricket is not a part time profession. Players need to dedicate themselves to the game and work hard. For the past one year we have observed that after playing eight or nine Ranji matches only a few players stick to the game with fitness and involvement in cricket. We do not have a track of the remaining players as such we will be having a performance audit and activity audit to know about these players and their involvement in cricket”, he informed.
“We know that the team is new and needs time. It is not that the players are not performing but we from our (GCA) side are also giving the best out of the best may it be travelling, stay, allowances and everything that is required in cricket. Failure or success is not a concern but the players must dedicate themselves to cricket fully. Best practice for cricket is to play maximum games”, he added.
Suraj urged the players to get involved in cricket throughout by joining academies by reputed ex-players as the Association will not be able to help them out fully.
Speaking about the Goa Premier League, which the Goan players were benefitting the most, Suraj said, “We have with us the Dhargal ground and we have converted the Sanguem and Poinginim grounds and also we are tying up with Panjim Gymkhana with which we complete having ground in all the talukas. We are designing a different league but as the BCCI crises are not resolved we are tied up as we do not have funds. Now that we are fully complied with Lodha commission we will ask CoA to release funds after which we will be in a position to help the Goan players in the best way possible.”
On the stadium issue, Suraj informed the present committee is on extension and it will be better that the issue is solved after the newly elected committee takes over.
