GCA in a spin over rift in electronic voting machines

PANJIM: The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) President Dr Shekhar Salkar and Secretary Chetan Dessai are at loggerheads over the introduction of the electronic voting machine, which would be a first in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the 2015-18 elections of the sports body slated for June 28.

The two factions agreed on the date of elections at the Managing Committee meeting held at the GCA headquarters, in Porvorim on Saturday. However, differences within the fold resulted with Dr Salkar’s plan to introduce the electronic voting system.
Meanwhile, Desai and his six-member group consisting of former GCA President Vinod Phadke, Akbar Mulla, Manohar Naik, Desh Kinlekar, Suryakant Naik and Suraj Lotlikar argued that the they were only 104 eligible clubs who could vote and wanted the elections to be conducted the traditional way using the ballot paper.
The meeting however failed to arrive at a logical solution and Desai’s group staged a walk out as a show of protest.
Later the GCA in a press release announced that the IT support team demonstrated the digital voting system which is an ongoing up gradation of the Goa Cricket Association. The managing committee appreciated the efforts of the IT team and recommended it for implementation at the forthcoming GCA elections.
