PANJIM: The Goa Cricket Association’s managing committee passed a resolution that its president Vinod Phadke should step down to avoid the de-recognition of the body at a meeting held at Porvorim, Wednesday.
“Majority of the members resolved that Phadke should step down. Now it is for him to accept the resolution or reject it. If he does not do that we will take further action,” Shekhar Salkar, Goa Cricket Association vice-president claimed.
However, Phadke refused to quit and wanted 15 days time to take legal advise and submit a reply to the show-cause notice.
The Goa Cricket Association was issued a show cause by the government for failing to implement the Justice Pendse Commission recommendations.
The Commission had investigated into the ticket scam during the 2001 India-Australia ODI match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.
One of its recommendations was that all the members of the then managing committee should be barred from managing the affairs of GCA and Phadke was a part of that managing committee.
After this, the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) issued a show-cause notice to the GCA asking why it should not be de-recognised for failing to implement the Justice Pendse Commission recommendations.
SAG Executive Director Sandip Jacques, in the notice had pointed out that the incumbent GCA President Vinod Phadke, was indicted by the Commission, but continued to head it.
The GCA was given seven days to respond.
The Pendse Commission recommendations were accepted by the State cabinet on May 23, 2012.
The SAG has also alleged that the GCA has failed to pay the entire dues for hiring the Nehru stadium at Fatorda for the one day cricket matches held from December 28, 1997 to April 06, 2001.
