Heads may roll lPrinter to be taken to task for mistake
PANJIM, OCT 30
The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has instituted an internal inquiry on the mistake in seat numbers for some (35) seats in the tickets and complimentaries of one block for the India-Australia ODI at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda last Sunday.
“We have taken a very serious view of the mistake and its repercursions which have affected the image of GCA,” stated Prasad Phaterpekar, secretary.
“Everybody was allotted some responsibility and if someone has failed in the duty, we may ask the person to step down or we will have to go for a reshuffle of the managing committee,” reasoned out Prasad.
“We need to take the issue to its logical conclusion. Give us 15 to 20 days time when the inquiry report would be known. If there has been a lapse, on our part, we will have to punish the person or persons, as the reputation of GCA is at stake. We need to come out clean and we will be transparent,” the official mentioned.
The Managing Committee members were closeted for nearly three hours, with president, Dayanand Narvekar keen to carry out proper investigation into the matter, sources pointed out.
Narvekar on Saturday stated that GCA would not pay the remaining amount to the Pune based printer, since he was the one responsible for the mistake.
Speaking to our Old Goa Correspondent, Narvekar stated that the printer had already collected 82 to 85 percent of money and around Rs 5 lakh is to be paid. “We would not pay the amount and besides that GCA would also issue a notice for damages,” he added.
Narvekar said since some flaws were found during the conduct of the match, some heads would roll from the GCA committee as one of the GCA members knew about the seat error at around four clock on the evening prior to the match day but it was not brought to the notice of the GCA. “The GCA would take action against those who had kept quiet on this issue.”
When asked if Goa still had a chance to host another ODI in future, Narvekar stated that unless GCA had its own stadium which had permanent seats with permanent seat numbers he would not like to take a risk and put people and his reputation at stake.
