MAPUSA: Geno FC played their hearts out to register a well-deserved 4-1 win over Calangute Association SC in the GFA’s Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.
Geno FC struck two goals in each session of play through Abelson Jachi, Chaitan Komarpant (2) and Meinam Musharaf, while for Calangute Association Richard Cardozo scored.
Just four minutes into the play and Geno FC forged ahead when striker Abelson Jachi getting hold of a ball, couple of metres at the center, covered some ground and latched a stiff 25-yard grounder to the far corner of the goal finding Calangute Association’s goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas diving attempt go in vain, 1-0.
Ten minutes later, Geno FC’s defender Meinam Musharaf moved upfront from the right flank and squared the ball inside the Calangute Association’s goal area to see custodian Presley fumble in his collection and after a defensive tussle the ball rolled to Chaitan Komarpant who stabbed the ball into the Calangute Association’s goal, 2-0.
In the 23rd minute, Calangute Association colts should have reduced the margin but U-21 Jovito Fernandes collecting a long ball from his skipper Pratesh Shirodkar inside the 18-yard box shot skywards to the dismay of his teammates.
At the other end, Abelson Jachi almost doubled his lead but his hot-blooded shot from inside the penalty box the rival defender for a corner.
In the 44th minute, Kirtikesh Gadekar set up Jovito Fernandes in front of the goal but the latter’s effort travelled just past the goal post.
On crossing over, Geno FC carried on their onslaught and scored two more goals through Chaitan Komarpant, and Meinam Musharaf, while in the added time Richard Cardozo managed to score a consolation goal for Calangute Association.
