MAPUSA/RAIA: Geno FC registered a well deserved 2-0 win over YBT in the Goa Professional League held at Sirsaim ground, here, on Wednesday.
Geno colts scored a goal in each session of play.
Chetan Komarpant scored in the added time of the first session (58th min), while Mahammad Faheez scored the insurance goal for his team in 72nd minute from the penalty spot.
Chaitan komarpant of Geno FC was awarded man-of-the-match at the hand of Alex Alvares, coach of YBT.
The match between Dempo SC and FC Goa ended in a 1-1 draw at Ella ground.
Jordon Borges gave lead to Dempo SC in the very 9 th minute while Sitroy Carvalho equalized for FC Goa in the 57 th minute of the match.
Cortalim Villagers showcased their prowess by defeating Panjim Footballers with a convincing 2-0 victory in the GFA Goa Professional League. Saeesh Halarnkar and Preston Fernandes emerged as the heroes for Cortalim, each contributing a crucial goal in either half.
The match kicked off with Cortalim squandering an early opportunity as their left-winger rattled the post. However, just before the breather in the 45th minute, they successfully broke the deadlock from a setpiece. Saeesh Halarnkar exhibited his aerial prowess, rising the highest to nod in at the near post, propelling his team into the lead.
Cortalim continued to press in the second half, coming close to extending their lead in the 50th minute from a corner kick, but Dhanushraj couldn’t keep his header on target. The left flank saw some action when Ashwin Fernandes made an impressive run and sent in a cross into the box, but Jaison Vaz failed to connect in front of the goal.
Despite Cortalim’s persistent attacks, Panjim Footballers struggled to mount a comeback, displaying a lack of urgency. Jaison, representing Cortalim, had another opportunity to widen the lead when Velroy Carvalho delivered a pass from the right flank, but he once again failed to connect.
The defining moment arrived in the 88th minute when Cortalim effectively sealed the victory by doubling their lead in a similar fashion. Velroy Carvalho provided the crucial assist, setting up Preston Fernandes for a simple tap-in.
