Geovin emerged the star for Carambolim Sports Club scoring all the goals against Crown Club and St Estevam which enabled his team to qualify for the semi-finals of 1st Coca-Cola Celebration Cup (Ilhas Zone) at Santa Cruz school ground on Saturday.
In the first match, Carambolim got the better of Crown Club 2-1. Geovin opened the scoring for Carambolim to help his team take a 1-0 lead. Soon, Ivan Araujo drew parity for Crown sending his dipping shot, from the centre, into the net, beating Carambolim goalkeeper Dayesh.
However, in the second half, Geovin sealed the match in favour of Carambolim taking advantage of a defensive lapse and scoring past a hapless Crown goalkeeper Calvin Afonso.
In another crucial match, Geovin once again emerged hero for Carambolim as he pumped in three goals to help his team overcome St Estevam Sports Club.
Geovin opened the account for Carambolim by sending his 30-yard shot into the net.
Rochi Fernandes scored the equaliser for St Estevam, and put his side on top as they needed only a draw to go through to the semi-finals.
Crossing over, Carambolim took advantage of a defensive St Estevam and Geovin added his second goal by pouncing on a clearance from St Estevam’s goalkeeper to give his side a 2-1 lead.
Attempts by St Estevam’s Rochi were denied on a couple of occasions by Carambolim’s goalkeeper Dayesh Murgaonkar. First, Dayesh dived to his left to keep out Rochi’s rasping drive and then leapt into the air and saved a goal bound bicycle kick from Rochi.
Geovin put the final nail in the coffin of St Estevam scoring his hat-trick in the dying minutes.
In another match, St Estevam thumped Crown Club 4-0. Rochi Fernandes (3) and Brewster Afonso were the scorers.
In the semi-finals on April 25, CDJ, Ribandar will meet Piedade Youth Association at 4 pm while Don Bosco Oratory will cross swords with Carambolim at 5 p.m. The winners will meet in the finals to decide the winner of the Ilhas Zone Coca-Cola Cup.
