GFA 1st Div to feature 16 teams

Candolim SC and Sao Jose de Areal are the 15th and 16th team; Three teams to get promoted to Pro League 2020-2021 season

PANJIM: The Goa Football Association Executive Committee on Friday decided to revamp the GFA First Division League and Goa Professional League for the betterment of the State football.
The Executive Committee decided to increase the numbers of teams from 14 to 16 in the upcoming GFA 1st Division League thereby promoting three teams to GFA Goa Professional League 2020-2021, with one team from Pro League being demoted.
“Altogether 14 team attended the meeting of the first division league clubs and I propsed the idea of having more teams. The decision has been taken to get more teams for better league structure and to give players a chance to play a top level football,” explained GFA President Churchill Alemao after the executive committee meeting.
“Two teams – Candolim SC and Sao Jose de Areal SC are now promoted to 1st Division League which will be played with single leg system,” revealed Churchill Alemao.
Churchill Alemao said that he knows the plight of Third Division, Second Division, First Division and Pro League Clubs and added, “I have a meeting scheduled with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the entire executive committee will plead GFA’s case for enhanced grants solely due to its enormous volume of activities of GFA throughout the year, having its own stadium and three offices in three different cities with 18 employees,”
“Should the CM give substantial raise in grants, the clubs will also be its beneficiaries and the format of grant allocation will be decided by the Executive Committee after taking into account the overall financial scenario of the association,” expressed Churchill, who congratulated the Sub-Junior boys for winning the West-Zone football.
Churchill Alemao also stated that a selection committee comprising Lavinio Rebello, Anthony Pango, Dionisio Dias, Francisco Nunes, Mauricio Almeida, Jaju Fernandes, Anthony Leo Fernandes and John Fernandes has been set up to select players for Goa State team for Santosh Trophy to be held in Goa from September 22 to 30. “The committee will select the team with the head coach Anthony Levino Pereira and his technical team,” added Churchill.
Recently GFA has shortlisted 30 players for the camp and the GFA President stated, “The 30 players selected for the State coaching camp would not be released to play for their respective in inter-club or inter-village tournaments and if such cases are brought to light, the players would be suspended and disciplinary action will be initiated.
