PANJIM: The 60th anniversary of the foundation of Goa Football Association (GFA) was observed at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Sunday wherein and exhibition match played between GFA Vedanta Women’s League champions Bidesh XI and Churchill Brothers SC.
Bidesh XI defeated Churchill Brothers SC 1-0 in the exhibition match wherein Reema scored the match-winner for the winners in the second session.
Earlier, around 65 students of St Mary’s Convent Primary School performed a Goan cultural drill which was loved by the football fans and was acknowledged by the GFA President Churchill Alemao, who awarded them 5,000 for their beautiful performance as a token of appreciation.
“Football is a powerful force for binding people together, uniting people of all ages, all backgrounds and all walks of life. It is a super passion for all Goans, it is our State’s official game, it’s part of the fabric of our State. We, Goans, love football. From village playing fields up and down Goa, right upto the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda, Goans live and breathe football. As the head of the 60-year old association, our mission at the GFA will be to continue inspiring young people to
play football and benefit from all that the beautiful game offers – team spirit, health, focus on life and, above all, just the sheer thrill and excitement of playing football,” stated Churchill Alemao, President.
Chief Guest GFA President Churchill Alemao cut the anniversary cake along with GFA Vice President North Lavinio Rebello and GFA Secretary Jovito Lopes and guest of honour Oswald D’Costa. Later, the guest of honour Oswald D’Costa gave away the prizes to both the teams.
