GFA completes all competitions on time

PANJIM: The Goa Football Association has completed all of its 14 Leagues before the season ended on May 31. 

Addressing a press conference in the city, the President of the GFA Dr. Caitano Fernandes stated that despite starting the season on November 1st, the GFA organised 826 matches during the course of the seven months to complete all Leagues.  “What I thought was impossible when I took over, became possible. I am thankful to my entire Executive Committee, club officials and organizers who have helped us in achieving this feat”. 

The Chairman of the Competitions Committee and Senior Vice President Anthony Pango informed that the GFA organised 826 matches this season in seven months averaging about 4 matches a day. There were a record 16 matches organised on two occasions this season. “I am thankful to FC Goa, Sesa Football Academy, Dempo SC and Government of Goa for providing us grounds to organise these matches in such a short duration of time. The GFA organised 826 matches across 27 ground sand 7060 players took part in the 14 competitions this season”, stated Pango.

With regards to the financial situation Caitano informed that when he took over the GFA was 71 lakhs in deficit with prize money pending of the last four years. The GFA also spent about 1.30 Cr towards organising the Leagues this season. “This year we spent a total of 1,30,06,000 towards organisation of the Leagues. We also organised two new age group tournaments for girls in U-14 and U-17 categories”. 

Meanwhile, the GFA will organise an Awards Night on June 3 at Taleigao Community Hall to felicitate the achievements of the players and officials during the season.
