PANJIM: The Goa Football Association (GFA) and Goa Football Development have condoled the sad demise of former football Peter Fernandes from Bicholim, who breathed his last on the football pitch while teaching football skills to the young trainees, at Bicholim, recently.
The President of GFA, Elvis Gomes said “The loss of Peter is just not a huge loss to the Bicholim Association Football Fans (BAAF) but also to the football lovers in North Goa in particularly. Peter liked to groom talent. As a player of Dempo Engineering he was considered a threat to opposing defenders. Bicholim has not only lost a gentle football player but someone who nurtured the game.”
The GFA executive committee also deeply mourned the demise of Peter Fernandes and convey heartfelt sympathies to his bereaved family.
“In the sudden demise of Peter, Goa has lost a genuine developer of grassroots football. Peter groomed children from Bicholim. He breathed his last when on the field with the kids. A skilful left outer in his time, Peter represented Goa in the Santosh Trophy too,” stated GFDC Chairman, Dr Rufino Monteiro.
Peter started his football career playing for BAFF and subsequently played for St Anthony Sports Club, Duler in the Senior Division. He then went on to don colours for Dempo Engineering and Vasco Sports Club. He was also a part of the Goa U-19 state team that won the National tournament in 1981, in Kerala.
