PANJIM: In a bid to promote the futsal culture, the Goa Football Association took the first step as they held two courses for aspiring futsal referees in Margao and Panjim respectively which was conducted by All India Football Federation Instructor Frankie Fernandes and Egidio Costa.
Altogether 34 participants attended the courses at both centres.

GFA Vice-President Lavinio Rebello stated, “It was encouraging to see the huge response including some of the owners of turf who attended the courses. This will help us in organising the upcoming tournaments with ease. We want to have the best referees for the State futsal championship as the best team will represent Goa at the nationals.
Lavinio added that the practical exams will be held shortly.
GFA General Secretary Jovito Lopes stated, “We need qualified referees and time keeper for the official championship and this course will help the aspiring referees to get the required qualification and assistance,” added Lopes.
The Goa Football Association will be also associated with the 1st State Inter College Futsal Championship, which was scheduled to be held in mid April has been now postponed to further dates due to rise in COVID-19 cases.
The tournament is being held in collaboration with MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar; SS Dempo College of Commerce and Economics and Association of College Directors of Physical Education of Goa (ACDOPEG).
“The 1st Inter-College tournament will set the stage for the State futsal championship and we will ensure full support to the associations and colleges to host this tournament,” expressed Lopes.
The State futsal championship which is likely to be played in coming days will be conducted as per the FIFA guidelines. i.e. Altogether eight teams will be playing in this championship which will be either played on indoor wooden surface or polyurethane, or outdoors turfs as defined by FIFA.
The pitch dimensions will be length 25m to 42m and 16m to 25 m on width.
