PANJIM: The GFA President Dr. Caitano Fernandes has praised the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for instituting the Bandodkar Memorial tournament on the 50th death anniversary of the first Chief Minister saying it would be a boost to the game in Goa.
He said, “I am grateful to the Hon Chief Minister for instituting this tournament. It is a great tribute to our first Chief Minister Dr. Bandodkar who was an ardent lover of football. The GFA will organise this tournament in the best possible manner together with GFDC and DSYA as a fitting tribute to our beloved Bhausaheb”.
The President added the GFA Executive Committee had granted a window in the first two weeks of January to conduct the tournament. “We will conduct the tournament in the first or second week of January when the ISL has a break for the AFC Asian Cup. We are targeting to invite at least four outstation teams and organise it in the best possible way together with GFDC and DSYA ”.
After incorporating a grant of Rs 6 Cr towards football development, this is the second major announcement from the Chief Minister of Goa during the tenure of Caitano.
“I have received tremendous support from the government so far and I am sure the government will support me in my remaining tenure”, said Caitano.
