PANJIM: Responding to reports that the GFA U-20 TACA Goa match between Dempo Sports Club and Vasco Sports Club which could not be held due to unavailability of match officials, the GFA clarified that it was a regrettable but said tha it was an unintentional lapse due to improper communication although the concerned officials were informed.
GFA further stated that time was too short to make alternate arrangements. GFA added that while organizing over 1000 matches in a season such instances though rare do happen due to various factors such as frequent requests of Clubs to postpone schedules on some pretext or the other.
General Secretary of GFA Welvin Menezes said,“the statement made by Eban Mesquita that GFA is killing football is objectionable and in violation of the Disciplinary Code”.
“The team management would be asked to clarify as to how the coach was making such baseless statements. GFA often goes out of its way in accommodating requests from clubs that cause disruption in the fixed schedules”, Welvin added.
“Eban Mesquita has a history of indiscipline that has resulted in his suspension for acts which would have led to his debarrement but for GFA’s sympathetic stance allowed him to continue with his coaching career.” Welvin concluded.
