GFDC marks third anniversary

PANJIM: The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) commemorated the third anniversary of the official announcement of football as Goa’s State sport with exhibition football matches, at Bambolin Athletics stadium. 
It was on March 26, 2012, that the dream of football loving Goans was finally turned to reality when the then chief minister Manohar Parrikar declared football as the official State sport and announced the formation of the GFDC.
Exhibition matches were held for men and women coaches of GFDC. The women match ended in a 2-2 draw with Sujitha Murgaokar (2) scoring for North Goa while Michel Castanha registering a brace for South Goa.
In the men’s tie, North Goa Coaches XI held their South Goa counterparts in a 4-4 draw. Agnelo Fonseca, Derryl D’Souza and a brace by Remus Gomes was enough for North Goa while Mickey Fernandes, Peregrino Lima and Treyson D’Costa (2) scored for South Goa.
Sports Secretary Dr Samuel Mathews said he was happy that GFDC was doing good work at the grassroots..
Chairman of GFDC Dr Rufino Monteiro whist complimenting the coaches for their excellent grassroots work, extorted them to be dedicated and determined in the mission of making Goa the hub of Indian football.
