FATORDA: Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar inaugurated the 39th centre of Goa Football Development Centre in the presence of Damu Naik, ex-MLA of Fatorda Constituency, GFDC Chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro, Member Secretary Alexio D’Costa, Arjuna Awardee Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, FC Goa player Romeo Fernandes, Agnelo Fonseca and Liberata Mascarenhas, at Fatorda, recently.
Alexio in his speech disclosed that nearly 4,000 children have been trained by GFDC with best training facilities and nutrition too.
Dr Rufino informed that major world footballers have come up with the implementation of grassroots level football development programmes.
Damu Naik said registering of above 255 kids to this programme is the welcome sign which showed this centre was the need of the hour.
Tawadkar said former chief minister Manohar Parrikar has declared football as the official sport of Goa which also gave birth to GFDC. He added Goans are lovers of football and most of the Goans knows the game and football growth is taking place along with the infrastructure.
He said the joggers track and swimming pool of Fatorda will be upgraded within eight months.
