Tree samplings were distributed to the GFDC trainees and tree plantation was done by the chief guest and chairman of GFDC, Dr Rufino Monteiro and Member Secretary, Aleixo Da Costa. Speaking on the occasion Aleixo Da Costa expressed his pleasure on seeing young children taking up football with great interest and urged parents to encourage their children to train regularly at the centre as now the career path for football players is very promising and lucrative. Addressing the gathering, Dr Rufino Monteiro informed that they were fortunate to be located in the midst of greenery unlike the concrete jungles of the urban areas. He further urged trainees to grab the opportunity and preserve their green healthy surroundings and on the football field to train hard and regularly to become future India players.
He congratulated the Poira Centre Head, Laxman Hadfadkar for doing a great job of running the Centre along with such community development programmes and also complemented the Head Coach Madukar Tari for continuously keeping the trainees interested in the game of football. Other guests present for the function were Santosh Gaonkar (Headmaster, Poira High School) who gave a talk on the importance of environment protection; Glenn D’Silva (Executive-Secretary, GFDC), Narendra Tari (Panch-member, Mayem-Vainguinim Panchayat).
The function was compered by Pandurang Korgaonkar and the vote of thanks was proposed by Narendra Tari. The environment day was also marked with exhibition football matches for the boys and girl trainees at the centre.
