PANJIM: The Goa Football Development Council inaugurated its 35th football development centre in Mandrem with over 90 trainees currently registering.
Welcoming the gathering Sitaram Ashwekar greeted and thanked GFDC for opening the centre in Mandrem.
Member Secretary of GFDC, Aleixo da Costa encouraged trainees to make the best of the opportunity which is made available and scale heights in football and further urged parents to look beyond other careers as sports is gaining momentum.
Dr Rufino Monteiro, Chairman of GFDC stated that GFDC has over 4,000 trainees in 34 grassroots centres across Goa and the best performing players have emerged from hinterland areas. He felt confident to see the Mandrem children to be future stars but they require focus and determination to train daily.
Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar expressed his happiness to see the centre open in the village and applauded GFDC for doing a fabulous job in merely three and half years. He congratulated Dr Rufino Monteiro for carrying out the responsibility given by the Government to carry out football development to every nook and corner of Goa.
