PANJIM: The De Sequeira sisters, Giovanna and Erica, are fast establishing themselves as two of jiu-jitsu’s most promising young talents, earning international recognition through their recent achievements in the United Arab Emirates.
Ten-year-old Giovanna de Sequeira claimed a bronze medal at the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (WPJJC) in Abu Dhabi, competing in the -28 kg infant/girls Gi category. Representing Atrixion Dubai and Insanity Jiu-Jitsu Academy, Goa (India), she displayed impressive determination, technique and composure on the world stage. Trained by international coaches professor Luis and coach Ronny, her podium finish marks a significant milestone in her early competitive career.
Her success is all the more remarkable given that she returned to competition after knee surgery just five months ago. Supported by her sister Erica and coach Raunak Singh, she first made her comeback at the Kickboxing National Championship in August before taking to the mat again in Abu Dhabi. Her coaches have praised her as ‘disciplined’, ‘focused’ and technically mature well beyond her years.
Meanwhile, her elder sister Erica de Sequeira has strengthened her own international credentials. Erica participated in the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship and completed advanced-level training at the Atrixion Academy of Sports in Dubai, earning a higher-grade international certification that reflects her growing technical sophistication.
