PANJIM: Goa Medical College, Bambolim defeated Government College, Pernem by 29 runs to emerge champions of the GSCOPE Cricket Cup 2014 organised by Goa Study Circle of Physical Educationalist in collaboration with Goa University, at University ground, Taleigao Plateau, recently.
Batting first, GMC scored a decent total of 82 runs in 10 overs. Pernem could manage only 53 runs in reply, due to a very disciplined bowling attack and alert fielding by GMC boys.
Dr Vasudev Gad of GMC won the man of the finals award. Kalpesh Kalshaunkar of Pernem College was declared man of the series.
Dr Gervasio Mendes, Principal of Govt. College, Pernem was the Chief Guest for the finals. Gurudas Pilankar, Administrator of GMC and Milton L Fernandes, Asst Dir of Phy. Edn and Sports, Goa University were the Guests of Honour.
The presentation ceremony was compèred by Dr Rajan Mathew and the vote of thanks was given by Dr Francis Lobo, both executive committee members of GSCOPE.
A total of 11 teams participated in the tournament. The other teams that took part were, Rosary College, Navelim, Institute of Ship Building Technology, Vasco, Vividha Higher Secondary, Sanquelim, Mustifund Higher Secondary, Panjim, St Thomas Higher Secondary, Aldona, GVM’s College, Ponda, GEC College, Farmagudi, Govt College, Quepem and Fr Agnel College, Pilar.
