“Goa’s infrastructure includes three projects, Dr. Shyama Mukherjee Indoor Stadium at Taleigao, Sports Complex at Bambolim and Sports Complex Peddem- Mapusa,” informed Goa Olympics Association (GOA), General secretary, Gurudutt Bhakta.
Mr Bhakta addressed the gathering present to celebrate the National Sports Day and also marked the birth anniversary of legendary Indian National hockey player late Major Dhyanchand, organized by Sports Journalists Association of Goa ( SJAG) held at GUJ on Saturday.
Commenting on the players accommodation facilities Bhakta ruled out the Sports Complexes.
“There will be no accommodations facilities at the Sports Complexes to accommodate the 10,000 participating players and 2000 officials in the State but accommodation facilities will be provided in hotels,” informed Bhakta.
Out of 28 disciplines, Goa will participate in the events which have high medal hopes.
The governing sports body has selected 10 disciplines.
The Goa Olympics Association has further urged the government to create infrastructure for cycling, skating and swimming to boost sports at grass root level, which will also help the government to generate revenue.
Mr. Bhakta was of the view that outstation players should not be included in the State teams during the National Games and that only local talented players should be given preference in the State squad. Bhakta further rejected imports of players by the Association.
Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, Goa`s first Arjuna awardee and former India football captain, graced the occasion.
