GTTA to seek court intervention on RTI

PANJIM: The two warring factions of Goa Kho Kho Association have been asked to sit together to sort out the problems and issues and only then hold the elections as per the resolution arrived at the general body meeting of Goa Olympic Association, here.
GOA secretary Gurudaat Bhakta told Herald that there are two groups – one consisting of Damu Naik, Sashikant Sardessai, Prakash Velip and the other comprising Girish Chodankar, Gokuldas Shirodkar with the former group feeling that grave injustice was done to them about seven years ago when they were not granted recognition. “Rather than fight, all need to come together first and then solve the problem of elections,” was the opinion of the members.
The discussion on the vexed issued of kho kho led to GOA treasurer Anil Magdavkar tendering his resignation, which however, was turned down and the application torn straight away.
Damu Naik, Sashikant Sardessai, Prakash Velip and Girish Chodankar, Kemlo Sawant attended the GOA meeting with Sashikant stating that it was wrong for GOA to have recognized the other panel led by Girish Chodankar after the 2004 elections, whereas their faction was recognized by the Kho Kho Federation. The dispute arose in 2004 on the question of holding elections.
With elections due in August 2013, it has been proposed that a committee consisting of four members each from two factions, two GOA representatives and one SAG nominee would finalize the list of members and conduct elections, since there is one association now and there was one association then, remarked Sashikant.
On the issue whether the associations were coming under RTI, the members decided to empower the Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA) headed by Adv Vero Nunes to take up the matter in the appropriate court of law, since some felt that only those receiving a grant of Rs 25 lakh and above were coming under the RTI. Others observed that it was necessary to part with information since it was Government’s money that was being received.
On the question of the teams’ preparations for 3rd Lusofonia Games, most members were not in a position to state what impression the Goa teams would make given the fact that the camps were not being held with the seriousness that it deserves, although judo and taekwondo promised that the best talent will be on view.
