MARGAO: Goa coach Francisco Neto who is preparing the state’s football team for next year’s Lusofonia Games 2014 openly showed his dissatisfaction over the ground conditions at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Tuesday.
“The grass was too long, it is difficult to cross and pass the ball when the grass is uncut,” said an unhappy Neto after the Goa Lusofonia probables played against Salcete Football Club.
“It was always going to be difficult to score on that surface. The uncut grass made the pitch extremely slow and obstructed smooth game play and scoring chances,” added Neto. Some experts felt that the ground was uneven and some urgent steps need to be taken to level the ground.
Neto however, was happy with the performance of his boys. He said “I am happy with the performance .We dominated the proceeding in the later part of the first half but we scored all the goals in the second half .We created lot of chances especially in the second half and scored goals at ease. We would have played better but the uncut grass made it difficult to play on the surface.” Goa won 6-1 against Salcete Football Club.
When asked about the camp, Neto stated that the camp will be in full swing from December 23 as more players will join from the I league clubs.
