Quepem Veterans move ahead
CHICALIM: Quepem Veterans defeated Excel Rovers Lotoulim 2-1 to move into the next round of the Vasco Veterans, organised by Vasco Veterans, at Chicalim ground, on Friday. The first half remained goalless draw.
In the second half, Ramesh Chari opened the score-line for Excel Rover Lotoulim in the 46th minute but the joy was short-lived as Teofolio Dias equalised for Quepem in the 50th minute. Five minutes later, Teofolio Dias scored the match -winner for Quepem.
Colaco Brothers win shoot-out
NUVEM: Colaco Brothers defeated St.Cruz Brothers 6-5 via the tie breaker to move into the next round of the 1st Shining Star of Nuvem 9-A side football tournament, organised by Shining Star of Nuvem at Jesus Mary Joseph church ground Nuvem on Friday.
Colaco Brothers netted the first goal of the match through Richard in the 38th minute. Later in the second half, Selfon equalised in the 49th minute.
In the tie-breaker, Colaco Brothers netted through Richard, Jurgen, Seny, Jaison and Inacio while Terence, Walter, Joe and Jayson scored for St.Cruz.
Strongest Man & Woman Powelifting c’ship
PANJIM: The Goa Powerlifting and Sports Association (GPSA) will be organising The First All Goa Strongest Man & Strongest Woman Powerlifting Championship 2021 in association with Dattawadi Boyz Sanguem to be held at Sanguem on February 6 & 7.
The male & female power lifters will compete for gold medals.
The cash prizes (for all weight categories for men & women) are: gold: Rs. 8,000; silver: Rs. 6,000 & bronze: Rs 4,000.
The strongest Man & Woman will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each plus a trophy and a certificate.
There will be a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 plus a Trophy each awarded for the bench press, dead lift & squat in men & women category .
Last date for entries is February 4.
VBL 2021 on January 30 & 31
VASCO: Chicalim Badminton Club (CBC) in association with Goa Badminton Association GBA) organised a grand inaugural launch of its VBL 2021 Trophy and team jerseys at Chicalim Indoor, recently.
The event would be held on January 30 and 31 at the Chicalim Indoor Badminton Court.
In a press release issued by the association member, the event was attended by all the team captains, vice-captains, CBC committee members and other players.
This is the 4th edition of VBL and the uniqueness of the event is that for the first time it is being held at an All Goa level. There will be 90 players across 6 teams of 15 players each (Men and Women – Open category).
Each team would be playing 8 events as follows: Men’s singles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, captains’ doubles and men’s doubles (4 numbers)
The top 2 teams would be playing the finals for the coveted VBL 2021 Trophy and the next two teams shall be playing for the 2nd runners up position.
The teams are: Goan Rebels (Captain: Praveen Shenoy and Vice Captain: Aditya Desai), Goan Spartans (Captain: Ibrahim and Vice Captain: Deepak Bhanushali), Power Smashers (Captain: Nilesh Naik and Vice Captain: Manish), Amigos Shuttlers (Captain: Devanand Shirodkar and Vice Captain: Meghal), Flying Gravity (Captain: Willy and Vice Captain: Siraj), Predator: (Captain: Damodar Poojary and Vice Captain: Sohan Naik)
The winners will be awarded Rs 25,000 while the runners-up will have to settle for Rs 15,000, 2nd runners-up: Rs 7,500.
Dovondem Veterans in quarters
CONDY-QUEPEM: Dovondem veterans got the better of Joe Cookies Veterans Loutolim 7-6 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 7th Quepem Veterans Cup, organised by Quepem Veterans, at Condy Quepem ground on Friday.
Francis Colaco opened the score-line for Dovondem in the 50th minute. Three minutes later, Alex equalised for Joe Cookies Lotoulim.
As the match progressed, in the 59th minute, Salvador made it 2-1 for Joe Cookies.
With just a minute left for the final whistle, Marcus levelled terms for Dovondem.
In the tie-breaker, Dovondem Veterans proved to be better shooters.
