Goa gets nod for Sports Centre of excellence at Campal

PANJIM:The Government of India has approved setting up of Khelo India Centre of Excellence at SAG Sports Complex at Campal.

Goa is amongst the 10 States, which were selected for Centre of Excellence.

The other States are Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Puducherry and Tripura.

“The Departmental Approval Committee under the chairmanship of Secretary (Sports), Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, vide its meeting date 12/10/2020 has approved the 10 centres for Khelo India State Centre of excellence,” said the letter from the ministry.

Further, it said, the viability gap analysis will be jointly done by the SAI/ UT to identify critical gaps of sports science support, manpower and equipment for the above mentioned KISCEs.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant thanked the Centre for the approval.

“I thank Shri @KirenRijiju, Union MoS for Youth Affairs & Sports (I/C) for the decision. This will greatly benefit Goa’s pursuit to achieve excellence in sports,” he said.
