PANJIM, JUNE 2
Goa begin their campaign in the 63rd Santosh Trophy national football championship quarter-final (Group B) with a match against Karnataka at Nehru stadium, Chennai tomorrow at 6.30 p.m.
In the first match, Services will play Maharashtra at 4 p.m.
Goa have had a good run in the championship so far, having won all their preliminary matches with a degree of comfort.
Goa are now in full strength, with the Dempo stalwarts joining the team to make them a force to reckon with.
Goa will be fielding their best eleven on the morrow, as except for Branco Cardoso, who is nursing a minor old injury, the others are fit and raring to go.
Goa had a light practice and that too for very little time as the organizers would not allow them to use the main venue, even though Karnataka had the privilege of playing on the same.
Goa were provided an alternate ground for practice, but the team found it too hard and unplayable.
There have been complaints that the facilities provided were substandard, there being no chairs in the dressing room, with the players being made to sit on the floor. Surprising that when any event is held in Goa, the AIFF chooses to be very particular and insists on standard facilities being provided to the teams. There seem to be different yardsticks for different associations, it looks like.
