PANJIM: The Goa Olympic Association (GOA) Secretary General Gurudatta Bhakta convened a review meeting of National Games Technical Conduct Committee along with State associations at SAG conference hall, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao Plateau, on Saturday.
Chairman Mukesh Kumar, S. M. Bali and Dushant Singh, members of the Games Technical Conduct Committee met authorised representatives of State sports associations and discussed the progress made on the Games and infrastructure works were reviewed.
Earlier during the day, GTCC and GOA officials inspected various games venues to take stock of infrastructure works, along with Mahesh Rivonker from SAG.
While interacting with association members, GTCC officials expressed confidence that the Games will go on as per schedule, although they admitted they were not fully satisfied.
“There are some questions which we have to forward to the chief secretary. We are not 100 per cent satisfied. One issue for us is projects which we are asking them to complete by February which we have been informed they will do it. As per the interest shown by the chief secretary, we think the Games will be held on time,” stated chairman Mukesh.
Gurudatta Bhakta echoed similar sentiments while adding, “We had an International Committee which had come to inspect the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium when it was under construction and they said it is impossible for this stadium to be ready for the Lusofonia Games. Once the stadium was complete, Merculanho Marchon from Mozambique gave a press note to the media saying this is incredible India, this can happen only in India. So be rest assured that the government is on the Games, it will happen, we need our teams to be ready with everything. Very shortly, our committees will start working.”
Bhakta later disclosed plans on the Olympic Bhavan for Goa. “I must congratulate our member Jayesh Naik who was appointed in the committee for Olympic Bhavan. He has gone around, met people, located three sites, and very soon we will have an executive council meeting from the Olympic Bhavan also,” stated Bhakta.
