Goa sub-juniors beat Gujarat

AGENCIES, INDORE: The Goan lads continued their fine form in the Sub Junior National football championship being held at Indore, MP as they breezed past Gujarat 3 – 1 in an exciting encounter, on Thursday. 
Macenzie Fernandes (46’) opened the score line for Goa while Richard Carvalho (59’ and 65’) added two more, Kevin Luis scored the consolation goal for Gujarat
The first half saw Goa dominate the proceedings as Harsh Parte was very effective in the midfield creating a lot of chances for the strikers up front. 
Goa should have taken the lead on three occasions which saw Rohan Viegas and Necio Fernandes miss the net from a hand-shaking distance. The score stayed 0 – 0 at the first half.
Second half witnessed a lot of goal mouth action. In the opening minute Goa broke the deadlock through Macenzie Fernandes who latched on to a good cross from Richard Cardozo on the right. 
At around an hour mark Necio Fernandes controlled a long ball from Anstein Rodrigues in the deep to set up Richard who tapped home the second goal for Goa. 
Richard made it 3 – 0 in the 65th minute when a well read move from Brandon found the former lurking the box to put it past the Gujarat keeper. 
The consolation goal for Gujarat was scored by Kevin Luis from the spot. With this win Goan lads have qualified for the next round of Sub-Junior National Football Championship.
