PANJIM: The 10th Goa Swimathon 2020 scheduled to be held at the Vainguinim beach in Panaji on March 28-29 stands cancelled due to the state government’s COVID-19 directives.
In a media release issued on Monday evening, Enduro Sports Goa, organisers of the event said that the decision was taken following their meeting with state government officials on Monday.
“Following our meeting with state officials this morning and based on the recent decision of the state government to invoke the Epidemic Act 1897 in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, we deeply regret to inform you that The Goa Swimathon 2020 has been officially cancelled,” a spokesperson for Enduro Sports Goa stated.
The official email communication from Enduro Sports Goa to participants of the event said, “We are committed to the safety and well-being of everyone in our race community, state and country. We understand the effort and dedication that you have put into training for this race. Our team is currently working on the event cancellation policy that will work in the best interests of our participants.”
As many as 953 swimmers from Goa, India and across the world had registered for the event.
