PANJIM: Goa were held to a goalless draw by Tamil Nadu in a Group B quarter-final league match in Santosh Trophy National Football Championship in Kollam (Kerala) Friday.
Strong contenders Maharashtra routed Jharkhand 4-1 in another group match.
Goa will now play Maharashtra on February 24 and Jharkhand on February 26. Only one team will qualify for the semi-final from the group.
Goa goalkeeper Melroy was awarded the man-of-the match award for his performance as he brought out many saves.
Goa dominated the second half proceedings but could not score. Marcus Peixote’s header missed narrowly, Agnelo Barreto’s free kick was saved by the rival goalkeeper, Jerose Oliveira’s shot missed the target and Valito’s volley sailed over.
Tamil Nadu were not sure of fielding the team due to internal problems within the TNFA and the matter was resolved this evening through the Court.
With the draw, and Maharashtra’s victory, Goa’s fate for qualification hangs in balance.
