PANJIM: Goa University emerged runners-up at the West Zone Inter University Football Women Championship 2023-24, organised by ITM University, Gwalior, recently.
Goa University overcame a stiff challenge from the Shivaji University, Kolhapur, girls via tie-breaker in the group D playoff match, Karen Estrocio put Goa University in front at the start of the second half. Shivaji University equalised with 3 minutes from the end.
In the ensuing tie-breaker Goa University won 3-2 with keeper Jossel Mascarenhas saving three spot kicks to take Goa University into the final.
In the West Zone league, Goa University drew with Mumbai University, 1-1, in the first
league match. Aniela Barretto scored for Goa University. In their second match Goa
University beat University of Kota, Rajasthan 3-0. Pushpa Parab, Karen Estrocio and Aaroshi Govekar were the scorers.
In the last league match, Goa University who needed a win to retain the title were held to a 2-2 draw by LNIPE, Gwalior. Pushpa Parab scored a brace. LNIPE won via the tie-breaker.
