PANJIM: Goa University won the West Zone Inter University Football Women Championship 2022-23, organised by Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education, Gwalior (LN.I.P.E, Gwalior).
Goa University was top of the table with five points (Goal for (G.F) =7 and Goal Against (G.A) =3, followed by host L.N.I.P.E, Gwalior, with five points and G.F=5 & G.A=1, University of Mumbai with five points and G.F=5 & G.A=3, and University of Kota, zero points.
In the first match of the league, which was played on Saturday, Goa University defeated the University of Kota, Kota 4-0. The match was fully dominated by Goa University in which two goals each came from Aniela Barretto and Karen Estrocio. In the second and third matches of the league played on Sunday, Goa University drew with University of Mumbai with a score 2-2 (Goal Scorer for GU: Karen Estrocio 2 goals and also in the last match of the league, Goa University drew with L.N.I.P.E, Gwalior with a score of 1-1, (Goal Scorer for GU: Namita Govekar) a well contested match were in the equally strong team of the championship played their heart out.
The team has now qualified for the All India Inter-University Football Women Championship 2022-2023 to be held at L.N.I.P.E, Gwalior from January 12.
