PANJIM: Goa University qualified to the league stage of the ongoing West Zone Inter University Football Women Championship 2022-23 at Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education, Gwalior.
By doing so the team also qualified for the All India Inter University Football Championship 2022-23 to be held at the same venue.
In the qualifying matches, Goa University won four consecutive knock out matches. In the first match defeated Banasthali university Rajasthan 10-0 (Goal Scorer: Karen Estrocio-three goals, Aniela Barretto- two goals whereas Rizella Cia Almeida, Rhea Pires, Jossel Mascarenhas, Aqsa Sayed and and Namita S. Govekar 1 goal each.)
In the second match, they defeated Rani Durgawati University Jabapur 8-0 (Goal Scorer Karen Estrocio-three goals, Aniela Barretto- two goals whereas Aqsa Sayed, Pushpa A. Parab and Joyvi Fernandes 1 goal each).
In the third match they blanked Maharaja Sahayaji rao University, Baroda 5-0 (Goal Scorer: Rizella Cia Almeida and Karen Estrocio scored 2 goals each and Rhea Pires – 1 goal); and in the play-off match Goa University defeated the defending champions S.P. University, Pune 2 -0 (Goal Scorer: Aniela Barretto and Karen Estrocio)
In the first match of the league, which was played on Saturday, Goa University defeated the University of Kota, Kota 4-0. Match fully dominated by Goa University in which two goals each came from Aniela Barretto and Karen Estrocio.
The winner of the league will be Champions of West Zone Inter University Football for women.
