CALANGUTE: Goa Velha Sports Club dethroned holders St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 7-6 on penalties after holding them to a 2-all draw to move into the quarter-finals of 2nd Vailankanni Boys Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Vailankanni Boys, Morjim, at Morjim ground, on Wednesday.
Goa Velha forged ahead in the 26th minute through Newton Pereira. Trailing by a goal, St Savio got their act together and restored parity in the 40th minute through Pedro Gonsalves.
Deep Govekar put St Savio ahead scoring in the 45th minute. Vishant Pednekar equalised for Goa Velha.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Goa Velha beat Calangute by 5-4. Vishant Pednekar, Ashel D’souza, Chattur Naik, Newton Pereira and Gerald Pires scored for the winners while Deep Govekar, Pedro Gonsalves, Agnelo Fernandes and Fayaz Shaikh were on target for the losers.
